So in case you didn't start any procedure yet, I believe this could solve a lot of problems:

Sidenote: On my iMac installing the latest Asus driver worked from the first time, instead of doing all this install reinstall, configuration stuff. I've spent like 3 hours figuring it out, and I hope it helps someone out there. WOW IT LIT UP, IT WORKS! FINALLY (I hope it does for you too).My computer did not ask for it by itself, so it was key to have the panel open.) (I'm not sure, but this seems key, as this was something I did different from several former attempts. install the driver (5.1 in my case, the name of the download is 'MB16XB & MBAx Driver for mac0S10.14'), and immediately 'approve this software' in the security & privacy panel tab.
uninstall whatever was installed before (because I did try several times) by using the uninstaller included in the download.download the driver on de ASUS support page (not the Display Link website!).open my system preferences and put it on security & privacy panel 'general' tab.in the 'privacy' panel of the security & privacy preferences I enabled 'DisplayLinkUserAgent' (because of a former install).restarting the whole thing a few times.install the 5.x driver from the Displaylink website (did not do a thing for me, except for showing a black screen and blinking 'usb' instead of showing me a screen).install the 4.3 driver, which seems to work for a lot of people (I 'm already on Mojave).So the USB 3 option is really needed in my case.
I have a macbook 12 inch, with only 1 usb-c port, and the zenscreen 16AC doesn't have an internal battery. Ok, I have been in trouble with this one too.
